Kingkey 1980 63 17-18 Nov Titus Carreyon, continued Picked up traps by 1100 hrs. Caught: Peromyscus formosus Neotoma lepida Peromyscus eremicus Peromyscus crinitus 1 1 7 3 -- 12 Specimen# 424 425 426, 427 428, 429 All 3 Peromyscus crinitus were caught in very rocky places, but 5 of the P. eremicus were, also. One station caught both species. No success with snap traps - all beasts caught in Sherman's! 18 Nov Titus Carreyon at Klatz Spring and 3.1 miles W of Klatz Spring Had lunch here, then proceeded to set traps while Margaret did a transect. When we arrived, we saw a young Bighorn on the hill S of the spring, he watched us for 15 minutes or so, then disappeared. I set 100 traps in two lines. The first line "kill line" was along the hill S of the spring, starting at a large red boulder and going W toward a prominent peak, across talus slopes and gullies. Much Bighorn sign, some old Gopher sign. Set 50 traps alternating 2 and 3 trap stations, 20 meters apart, 2 Sherman's or 2 Sherman's and a Merveille Special, bait: oats with peanut butter and bacon fat. Margaret did a vegetation transect (#73) here. Prominent plant species are: harrisia, Psorothamnus, Euphorbia Californica Asterias drummondii, Amphiachydrus, Echinocactus, Encelia farinosa, Opuntia basilaris, Yuccesia
