ingsey 1980 62 12 NOV Leadfield the highest peaks popped in. Gray, windy, damp, light hail and sprinkles as we ate breakfast. Checked mine shafts (all of them) and found no bats! Saw a Bewick's Wren, Chukars, Raven. Helped Margaret with a transect, then headed for home, defeated by the weather. 17-18 Nov Titus Canyon Rd at "entering Titus Canyon" sign ~4000ft Arrived just as it was starting to get dark. Set 100 traps: 80 Sherman's and 20 museum speckles in alternate 2 and 3 trap stations. The 3-traps stations had 2 Sherman's and 1 M.S., 2-trap stations had 2 Sherman's. Stations 20 meters apart, heading up Titus Canyon from "entering Titus Canyon sign" for 400 meters (20 sets) and down the canyon from sign, 400 meters. Set line along S wall (going down) and W well going up. Some traps in gravel wash, most in rocks or on boulders. Considerable Bighorn Sheep sign. Grass trampled, trails, droppings. Nestoria nests in some of the rocky crevices. Plants: Eriogonum 4 (rare) Mormon's petrophylla and E. inflexus, Chrysosporianabrus, Atriplex sp., Brickella multiflora Larrie Birds: Cackels Queal, Jucoo, Black Wrens, Guadalupe Raven Herps: Uta stanketrigue in rocks 9PM. Tried setting bats at Klare Spring 1830-2030: caught 1 Pipistrelles in first half hour, nothing else. Hard noises that sounded like Big Horn on cliffs S of spring. Camped at Leadfield.
