Kingsky 1980 61 11 Nov 8 mi E of Grapevine Pk 5000 ft. continued There was considerable evidence of cows and horses, and we saw 24 cows approx 1/4 mi E of this location. Also coyote scat here. Realized that we have seen for fewer rabbits, both jackrabbits and cottontails this year than last. Returned to campsite at seismologic station to put up skims. Then went up to check our weather stations at 6000 and 7000 ft. Mark gathered a large bag of pinyon cones in a few minutes. This is an extremely good year for pinyon nuts. Then we drove into Beatty to pick up Mark's vehicle and have dinner. Drove to Headfield, then drove to Klase Spring. Titus Canyon Rd had been graded within the past few days and the puddle in the road had been mostly filled in. I applied a shovel to increase its size. We sat in the road, using Mark's bat detector but picked up only one pipistrelles so did not put up the net. Then it was very windy, overcast, quite cold. We returned to Headfield where we explored two old buildings and the largest mine shaft. Saw a Western Wood Pewee in one building and a Pleotus tournesii in the mine shaft. Had a windy night, light intermittent rainfall. Saw only one jackrabbit en route: approx 3 mi W of Monument Boundary. 12 Nov Leadfield Awoke to find snows in the higher elevations,
