over herra mixed shrub along Titus Canyon Rd. approx 3 mi W of Mon.Buddy.
I suspect the small number of Aneurosporusphylies (1) in my catch may be partly because I pick up the trap too early in the day.
24oct Titus Canyon Rd at Titusot Wash Canyon and Red Pass
Left Las Vegas at 10:30 with Margaret and Bill Dunn, who wanted to learn about trapping small mammals. Arrived at point where Titus Canyon Rd meets Titusot Wash Canyon at 1430 hrs. Set 100 traps in three lines: one line of 40 1/2 snap 1/2 live in pairs going down the rocky-sandy-gravelly wash. One line of 30 Sherman's set by Bill using single-trap stations, westward along gravel bench above wash. One line of 30 Sherman's in 2-trap stations I set going uphill toward pink cliffs going. There was some Thoroughys sign but digging several mounds proved fruitless. Also merle digging of Kit Fox (?). Margaret did a vegetation transect here. Vegetation is herra-mixed shrubs, and in the wash were some large lupinus and other reeds plants (Hymaneclos). Weather: clear, 70's, light breeze. Proceed up to Red Pass at top of hill above Leadfield, 5200ft. Rugged limestone (?) cliffs at the base of which is soft pink sedimentary stuff that is quite treacherous to walk on. Very steep and loose, rocky. Set 100 traps: Bill set 50, I set 50. Bill's line went up toward top of ridge W of pass, set 3-trap stations 2 Sherman / swap
