on the topo map. This slope has several rock
outcrops and small rocky canyons. Vegetation
is Artemesia, Pinon, and junipers (some of
these rather large), Mesodora, Ephedra and
other less common shrubs. The opposite
slope has no pinons or junipers, just shrubs.
Purplea is common in the drainages on
both slopes and there is a stand of it
in the valley. There is much evidence
of cattle, some of deer. Did not notice
gopher sign; there were a few Nestorica
nests among the rocks and canyons.
Weather was warm (70-80 F) and breezy,
occasional light breeze. A full or near-full
moon tonight. Set 100 trays, 60 Shermanes
and 40 Museum Specials, on 3 lines, spaced
approx 20 meters. Trays paired, on the two
long lines Museum special and Shermane,
on the short line both Shermanes. Two long
lines began on treeless slope, crossed
valley, went up tried slope almost to
top of ridge. Stations 20 meters apart,
bait oats coated with peanut butter and
bacon grease. Trap lines were approx 30
meters apart; parallelly 40 traps each line.
Short line, 20-traps, set in valley along
Margaret's vegetation transect line
for 100 meters, then continuing eastward
