39 7 Sept continued - and knocking down the stems. I do not know whether it was sheep, deer, cattle, horses or ?? We continued on toward Klein Spring. One-half mile E of the spring we saw a large running along the beach S of the road. At the bottom of the beach, in the wash, lay a dead ewe. Approx 5 yrs old. Described in Species Account. Set up a camera close to the spring, then continued home. Saw a Spotted Sandpiper in entrance of canyon 13 Sept Plummer Mine Shaft 6800ft - Doe Spring Arrived at campsite around 1500 hrs. Flus led 3 mule deer from canyon bottom near camp. They ran half way up the hill W of camp, stopped and watched us for a while, then continued over ridges. The only one we got a good look at was rather small, perhaps this year's fawn without spots; the other two were larger. Hiked to Doe Spring. Flushed a mule deer at pass, but didn't see it. Much deer sign in vicinity of spring. More than I remember last year. Also old cow pies. Put time-lapse camera in tree over spring. 14 Sept Grapevine Peak Hiked with heavy packs to a saddle about 8000ft, 1 mi SE of peak, then hiked with day pack and trap pack to peak. Saw a young Peromyscus maniculatus perping (loudly) scrambling over bushes and rocks - lost its mother. Eyes just open, very lightly terror'd, on ridge above closed section of road. Much deer, cow, horse sign along route.
