7 Aug 1980 Titus Canyon, p2 (page # of this expedition)
willows, surrounded by thin small rushes.
On the W side of the willows a trail led into
a cool shady bedding area, trampled rushes
with damp earth, two indistinguishable but
contiguous areas, the largest about 6 ft by 10ft
the smaller about 5x5. Some sheep droppings
were present in the smaller area. Also
on the W side of willows, about 6 feet outside,
was a place where the rushes had been
trampled down and a small pool of water,
about 1 ft diameter was visible. This was
at the top of the circle of dense vegetation.
There were several trails leading in all directions
from this pool. Along the largest trail leading
straight down the hill were 3 or 4 other
places where the rushes had been trampled
down and very small pools were present.
Water obviously ran down the slope under
this trail, but disappeared by the time
it hit the wash. Set a camera focused
on the upper pool, but including some of
the trails all around, especially the
one going down to wash. Returned to
truck, hoping to see some sheep, kept
no luck. Picked up cameras at Klein Spring
#205, when I put two cameras on 31 Sept/July
(camera #7 on lower puddle, "stubble" on upper)
Upper puddle had dried up. Saw no sheep en route
through Titus Canyon. Stayed at Furnace Creek tonight.
