25 28 July 1980. Scotty's Ranch. Collected 2 bats Artrozus pallidus #331 and 332 from rafters of stables, pointed out by Bob Dolan, curator. Also set 20 Sherman traps, salt, peanut butter, bacon fat, around trailers in storage shed, and among edges in small "marsh" at Grapevine hideout area. Caught 2 Dipodomys merriami (#333 + released) 2 Neotoma lepida (#334 + released) 1 Perognathus formosus (#335) all around trailers. 5/20 29 July 1980. Picked up the above traps, went to Scotty's Ranch and put up the specimens while Margaret looked for plants. Went to Scotty's Castle to speak with Joanne Urshel about getting into Ranger Station to consult Spring book. She let us in, then suggested we use the Xerox at the castle to copy needed pages, which we did, gladly. Spent some time talking with her and Rick Hibbard, a seasonal ranger. Rick is interested in preserving Scotty's Ranch. Wants info on what we found there & wants to put in pit traps. I am to consult C. Bradley about pit traps. Proceeded to Pineyguine where I made abortive attempts at shooting duck and getting the time-lapse movie camera ready to go for next day.
