5 July 1980 continued, p2. Proceeded along road to a point 1.5 mi NE of Strozzi Ranch that appears to be ecotonal between sagebrush and Pinyon-Juniper. Some scattered Pinyons and junipers, but mostly sagebrush. Margaret did vegetation transects here (# ). Set 40 traps, Shermons baited with oats, across washes and ridges, beginning at a large juniper 1/2 way up ridge N of road, going down, across wash, up a small ridge, down into next canyon, then up a very brushy canyon. Set traps in pairs, 20 meters apart. Set another line of 40 traps, same bait and arrangement, going down the wash. Set another line of 18 traps along ridge, beginning at start of first line and continuing across talus slopes to a rock outcrop Eastwards. Saw some Thomson's sign in valley but did not set traps. Saw deer sign, cow sign. No large animals seen. Set up a line of six trout flies dangling from nylon leader drawn between poles set across wash in the # hope of catching bats. One bat, a large one that appeared to be the same kind I saw last night, checked out this set up twice but did not bite. Total 98 traps set here
