14 11 June 1980 - 12 June 1980. Strozzi Ranch and Phinney Mine with Charles Douglas. Mostly to show him the area, learn to trap gophers and attempt for bats and rabbits. We camped at Strozzi Ranch, set 7 gopher sets, 1 along road leading E from the ranch, 6 along the wash and road in the canyon that begins at the stone overhang corral. Caught three Thomomys (314, 315, 316). Evening was very windy, there were no bats flying. In the morning we picked up the gopher traps, then tried some rabbit hunting, with no success CD says rabbits don't like windy conditions. We proceeded to Phinney Mine shaft, then up to the pass, keeping an eye out for Eutamias which we saw in several of the rock out crops, and rabbits which we did not see. On the way out of the study area, approximately 3 1/2 miles E of Phinney Mine at 5600 ft elev. CD shot a Sylvilagus (#316). Then we proceed homeward, seeing 4 horses along the road.
