GSLEY 80 2. 31 March 1980 - Scotty's Ranch, Death Valley N.M. Set pairs of traps, 1 Museum special baited with peanut butter- bacon fat- rolled oats, 1 Sherman baited with rolled oats at irregular intervals (approx. 20 meters) along and within dense springside vegetation above ranch house. Vegetation was mostly Plucker, Baccharis, some Prosopis, Arundo, Distichlis. Set 20 stations. Call their "spring-riparian line". Also set 10 stations, 2 Shermands, at 20 meter intervals SW of ranch house through Larrea-Ambrosia, rocky with small rocks (under 1 foot diameter) call this "larrea-ambrosia line" Set traps at sunset (approx 5:30 pm) Total: 60 traps Retired to Desert Research Institute trailer, which has some electrical problems: not enough juice to feed refrigerator and hot H2O heater. Must call Tom O'Farrell about this. 1 April 1980: a cold, cloudy, windy morning. Checked traps, left them in place for another night. Catch: "Spring-riparian line": 11 Peromyscus crinitus? (272, 274, 275, 276, 277, 281, 282, 283, 284, 285 and 1 released) some of these may be other species. ( 3 Reithrodontomys megalotis (273, 278, 280 (all on snap traps); 1 Perognathus 3 Neotoma - all let go. Total 17/40 "Larrea-Ambrosia line." 5 Perognathus (265, 266, 268, 269, 271) 2 Peromyscus (crinitus?) (267, 270) Total: 7/20
