8 August 1979 continued.
Some horse shit. Some dandelions!
Not much for birds - at least not many visible.
Proceeded to spring 230A. Up on the ridge we saw some cows, they led us to the water. Not much water, mostly mud with water in cow tracks. Deer sign.
Continued on toward camp, intending to stop at Spring # 229 but couldn't find it. The country is much more rugged that it looks on the map, there are fair-sized ridges and canyons that don't show up as more than slight indentations on the map.
The trip back to camp was exhausting. Too tired to set traps tonight.
Saw a family of Western Bluebirds on our way back to camp. Heard a Great Horned Owl and Poor-wills at night.

Went & looking for gophers this morning. Tried digging up what I thought were gopher mounds along road between camp and "shaft" but found no tunnels, and eventually gave up. Explored the mine shafts at Phinney Mine. (Saw two "Oregon Minedes), The W shaft went
