5 August 1979, Continued
200-300 feet long, severely impacted
by cattle, a dearth of vegetation,
high browse lines on all trees and
shrubs along its course. A mud bottom
forested by croupies and tracks. On
the vicinity, we saw 11 cows.
We proceeded across the valley to
a rock outcrop just W of the fork
in the wash, where we camped
and set 40 traps (as before).
Most of the traps were along the wash,
vegetation mostly tall Artemisia,
some Eriophyllum, Paralia,
scattered small pitons. A small, very
rocky wash, a large rock outcrop.
Elevation 6700'. Set traps at sunset
(8PM). There was a short (15-20 ft)
prospect tunnel in rock outcrop,
evidence of Neotoma in rocks.
Saw a Squirrel (?) swooping
near us just as it was getting
dark.
6 August 1979. Last night's traps
caught: 1 Peromyscus maniculatus (#130)
Neotoma lepida (#131) Auniospermophilus(#132). Left traps until noon.
Hiked up canyon to spring #232,
frightening a cow away from the
spring as we approached.
