12 10 July 1979 Strozzi Ranch vicinity of our camp. On top of mountain, saw some chipmunk (?) diggings, but no chipmunks. Magnificent view from mountain - gave me a much better understanding of the scope of the Grapevine Mountains. On return, discovered 3 piles of cut logs, high up on slope at head of valley - logging must have stopped rather abruptly, to leave behind this work- logs were ca 3' long, some 1' or more diameter, neatly stacked in long cords. In valley, saw diggings of a predator (fox? badger? coyote?) and several cattle. Set 30 live traps, baited with oats, along road between camp (apple orchard) and buildings, and in buildings caught: 0. 11 July Strozzi Ranch Saw two Ammospermophils young, on top of a small boulder 150' away from camp on E facing slope.
