Elkordatum 1955 journal May 19 day. Only large on road was one adult at Bullfrog Taken near Bonito's. About 10-12 live Dipteromyia, 6 Peromyscus, cotton-tail rabbit seen. Pavement more dry. Agricultural graze land along road will force-drive heavy with vegetation. Reptiles probably seldom seek the road at night this situation. Tundra, Prodester on U.S. 99. Plan 132, 33, Hwy 50 Tracy, San Leandro, freeway to Albany. Arrived home 2:10 A.M. June 4 left Berkeley 4:10 P.M. accompanied by Drew Hidy in Plymouth. Initial mileage 37838. Clear but day. Hills east of San Leandro dry & brown. Temperature 95° in Valley late afternoon. Gas Prodester 14.1 gallons (37927) at $4.40. Last time tank filled Berkeley 37700, arrived Yosemite Valley 10:45 P.M. (One gopher snake collected 2 mi. w of Mariposa on 1 July 140 - live adult.) Evening clear and mild. Camped at Cone 15. Early morning sawade dry Scirea chrysolea, black-headed grosbeaks, steller jays, robins. June 5 checked water station Ahwahnee Motor. Clear, cool morning but sun hit Valley about 7:30 A.M. (O.S.) Buffo toads observed. Afternoon trip via Glacier Point Road, then trail to Wama Meadow, an old census locality. Rana and Theroptygis only - not a sign of toads over a meadow area fully 3/4 mile x 200-300 yards width. Some high clouds but mostly sunny, hot, no breeze. Time 2-4 P.M.
