EL Kaldeth journal May 18 Left Albany alone in Plymouth at 6:10 A.M. Clear, mild morning Bay area. Took East Shore Freeway south to Davis St. in San Leandro, then cut east to Hwy 50. Low haze over Central Valley but clear skies and lovely temperatures. East side of Bay area hills still green. Irrigation water in Central Valley at good level, some standing irrigation pools. Rivers medium high water. Mailed 8:50 A.M. Gas 9.9 gals. (36985.4). Stop about 2 mi. E. Florida on Hwy 140. Cattle watering trough and two shallow (to 3") muddy pools. No sign of ovunar eggs or larvae. Stop by bridge (37005.2) where water standing in pool creek bottom. Cattail much deeper (2') ponds. (2 toad) Bullfrog larvae very abundant along with adults. One Scalogerus record. The Orange-spot gloos on 140 (37008.1) and Pomitra road (12.9). A & Scalogerus shut an road about 2 mile N of Morrison cutoff (Hwy 140 to 49) at 11 A.M. Day continued clear and hot, but fewer lizards not abundant along highway. Fished a couple hours between Indim Flot ad Brucburg. Super-Super raised 4 trout, only one looked at it lost. Trout hand fast action of lure, not slow drawing it in after cast. Clarence "Red" Walley (zz?) warning cook Lodge Cafeteria, stopped and chatted. Local men correcting with yellow salmon eggs and worms. I had no luck with worms ad/or spinner. Mailed high but quite clear for this time of year. Drive into Yoz. Valley 3 P.M. Still warm and clear.
