E.L. Karlstrom 1955 Journal April 27 We left Valley late afternoon. By 4:30 P.M. Stoveran Meadow retains only small patches of snow. Sky remained clear thru evening. Margina at 7:30 P.M. About 8 Bufo and 2 Ran collected in creek SW side of town. Even cooled down to air temp. of 10-12° C. by 8 o'clock. Return Berkeley 1 P.M. May 10 Left Albany 6:45 A.M. with Rose Hidy in his Pontiac. East Bay Freeway to San Leandro and Bury. So east. Merged for gas and coffee 9:30 A.M. Crest Valley clear and mild. Some standing water in creek beds and were medium high. Sierra foothills green from quite recent rains, skies clear. Made stop along Bear Creek near Bend Creek Inn on Hwy 140. Streams clear. Raney Baylei seen. Hellgranites (m?) collected by rolling stones in swift water and letting them swoosh into a deej net. Merged River high, mostly white water. (to 12") 6 rainbows, 1 whiting caught with hellgranites and sugar-sugar lures in yurts Indian Fork area. nine others caught in deep pools above Arch Rock Ranger Station. Hidy took an 8 " broach at Valley View. Yosemite Valley water table rise, much higher than last summer. Falls loaded with rushing water, temp. in 60's late afternoon. Night check along Glacier
