El Karstern 1955 Journal April 13 - brief stop at Bricley Hydromata burne locality. much too dry on surface and under objects. Cloudy dull weather continued into evening but no possibility of rain, moderately cool. Stop at Mojave for gas at 6:15 p.m. 14.9 gallons, speedmeter (35796.4) checked Mariposa Creek, a tributary of [illegible] thereof, which runs SE through the west side of town, one block W of main street (Hwy. 140) Breeding toads present, also adult bull frogs along one stretch of the creek. Air temp. 7:15 p.m. was 13.2° C., mild breeze, still high clouds in sky. Left Mariposa Creek locality 8:35 p.m. and continued on Hwy 140 to foothills. Brief disturbing stops along road east of Glorida. Hyln only heard, no speedfoot toads. Drive straight home to Berkeley after supper stop merged. Crawled home 12:15 a.m. April 26 Left MVZ 7:40 A.M. accompanied by John and Sarah Burns. Speedmeter 36128.4, tank full 15.5 gallons, $4.60. Clear morning Berkeley area. Hills on east side as green as I've seen them. The effects of recent rains are evident in gorge land west of the Socramento Valley. Little standing water in creek beds along road in the valley. Merged 10:15 A.M. cloudy over foothills of [illegible]. We hit slight squalls of rain east of Glorida, hail above 1000 feet.
