April 12 left MVZ 8:30 A.M. for Yosemite Valley.
Driving along this trip, initial speedmeter
reading 35477.8 at MVZ, tank full. Tracy
9:50, Modesto 10:20. Merced (35604.0)
at 11:15 A.M. Hazy sun in valley, mild
temperatures. Valley generally dry, no standing
water in yortor creeks along highway until
I hit U.S. 99 from Modesto to Merced.
Placida on Hwy 140 (613.8) east side of town
Standing water in gorge (614.6) and a culvert
21.1. Road to Hornitos (630.0) and cutoff
to Mt. Bullim (634.4). I stayed on Hwy 140
to Mariposa. First stage (637.6) a small
tributary to Agua Fria Creek. Shallow flow
in the creek, hillsides dry. One Eumeces gilberti
taken here. Mariposa (642.2) SW end of town.
Took road toward Warm Bar, along creek. Park
area near the Fairgrounds 1.8 miles from
Mariposa. Conversation with a lady who lived
near the pond (part on her property) revealed
fact that bullfrogs were there. She has seen
"Toads" (probably Bufo?) around her house. She
dammed-up hole near the cumbel rock plant
on this road (between Mariposa & Fairgrounds)
has been in existence at least three years.
Drove directly to Yosemite Valley, arriving
at museum 2:15 P.M. (5688 speedmeter)
Hazy warm sun continued, same in valley.
