El Kadatum 1956 masticophis lateralis April 21 Hwy 466 at Clear Creek, 12 mi NW Tahoma, Kern Co. 4:25 P.M. Snake lying on top of light gray granite boulder. 4'x3' and 10" above grass surface. Top of ridge 90 feet east of small flowing creek. Animal undoubtedly basking in exposed position to get benefit of late afternoon hazy sun. Ovacal temp. 26.5° C. Rock surface 30.8° C. Air 24.2°C. one inch above rock (bulbs shaded). Snake active adult over two feet long.
