Bufo canorus
June 30
Upper Blue Lake, 8100 ft., Alpine Co., Coly.
- silty. Also located 40 yards from edge of lake.
Broods were concentrated near edge of lake, and
breeding probably occurs along the grassy margin
where streams enter. This could represent ecological
separation in preference for breeding sites. However,
I would be surprised if some hybrid moties
do not occur at this locality.
July 30
Paul K. Anderson reports canorus breeding at
west side of Saddlebag Lake, 10,051 ft., Mono
Co., Coly. on July 29. Some recently hatched
embryos. Adults also seen along stream area
between Emness Glacier and Saddlebag Lake,
about 11,000 feet. The breeding stage suggests
a later season. Paul says that there was
lots of snow around Saddlebag, chunks falling
into the lake. Still some snow along Terga
Lake, too, and patches in Pass area.
