EL Kardatum 1956 Buffo conuue June 30 Upper Blue Lake, 8100 ft., Alpine Co. Calif. 40 yards NW of lake edge at extreme north end of lake. Eggs found first in shallow (tr 3") sees 10 x 20 yards. Eggs over are 3'x 15", mostly in two puddles not more than 1 1/2" deep, 1/2 to 3/3rds of eggs swollen and grayish. Air temp 1" above water 17.8o C. Water 1/2" below surface 23.6o C. at 4:03 P.M. (D.S.T.) Bright sun, cloudy sky but brisk NW wind. Vaughlder Blue-X #7 facing E over a pool where eggs discovered. Peaks in background, a jutting peak. Discovery of these eggs confirms sympatry of conuue and loreae at this locality, as indicated by two adult birds in Stanford collection (both had been cataloged as B. loreae). Adult -> found under log 16' x 8" along with 3 adult -> loreae and unattacked gravid & brood. Water flowing, to 2" depth under log. I took a photograph (Vaughlder 4x5 #8) of site facing SE toward lake. First known sympatry of conuue lack of active conuue this afternoon suggest a small population. Conditions appear right for this siurnal beast to be out breeding in numbers. I sroaged the willow seeps and checked ponds, under logs, etc. for a good hour. Two adult -> loreae were out in the water near the lake edge, but about 26 others were collected under logs. Conuue breeding site typical for species - shallow and
