EL Karlstam 1956 Buffo carorus Tinga Bass June 29 Some juveniles so small I mistook them for spiders also present at edge of pond. I collected a sample of juvenile toads and few [illegible]. These animals are probably part of batch I recorded here August 1955. Growth is very slow first year. I have no evidence that these could have over-wintered in pond. Late August ad October checks showed no more tadpoles in pond last year. Voightlander Blue-X #4,5,6 facing E across study pond, 4:30 P.M. I returned to study pond area with the Scintillometer. One animal picked up by instrument about 25 yards N x NW of weather station site at NE corner of study pond (RF2, RH4, LH4) adult >>. Background noise between 40-60 c.p.s. (counts/second). I got a reading of 80-90 c.p.s. from toad 3-4 feet away and saw him just about the same time. Reading go with instrument just over him 2000 c.p.s. (fairly weak - just over one m.|hr.) Toad appears as healthy or other untagged moles gotten in area. The C60 tag lies directly above me, slightly to right side. It is loosely held in that position presumably by connective tissue. However, it was easily moved about under the skin by slight pressure of my fingers. I kept toad for observation. Second adult >>(RF3,LH4,RH4) 5 yards from
