April 22 East end of Big Ben Lake, 6750 ft., S.P. Co., Calif.
2 Sceloporus gravis
Metcalf Bay, Big Ben Lake, 6750 ft. We drove part way out to lake. Scraped-over area produced subadult and adult toads ( ) when we dug in loose soil at edge of shallow ponds.
Bufo boreas
From Metcalf Bay we doubled back eastward to road to mm Ridge. From ski area we drove Camp Rodford five rods to canyon to the south and joined road connecting with Mill Creek Canyon. Snow patches along road above 7000 feet. Skies clear but cold winds.
D.O.R. (just hit) adult Gambrotus multicinctus on north Forest Home R.O., J-240, Mill Creek Canyon. 4:50 P.M. Stayed overnight home of John Goodson, paleontologist at Redlands University at 6000 foot level, Mill Creek Canyon. In conversation John mentioned presence of both Crotalus mitchelli and Crotalus viridis oreganus in this canyon. Also 3 Trinophidus taken, one per year, on Mill Creek Canyon road 3000-3600 feet - all D.O.R.
April 23 Left with John Goodson for Redlands at 7:20 A.M. Clear, mild morning. Ensatina e. [illegible] locality at about 5000 foot level, 1/2 mile above Forest Home R.O. Rana aurora reported from ponds in river bottom. Lichenura collected alive about 3200 feet. Salivadora D.O.R. slightly
