April 21 Left Berkeley 6:50 A.M. in MVZ truck with Bob Stabler and Dick Eakin. Overcast but mild. Walnut Creek to Hwy 50.
3 white pelicans flying N 8:30 A.M. San Joaquin River. Hazy, warm in Valley. Modesto 8:40 A.M. (27824). Hwy 99 south.
D.O.R. 'Possum on edge of highway (7839.7)
Merced (7858.0). Fresno 10:25 A.M. (7905.)
Bakersfield 2:45 P.M. (8001.8) Stop for groceries, supplies Westchester Shopping Center.
First collecting stop on Hwy 466 SE by E of Bakersfield. Bottom of sandy wash is moist. Grass green in north slopes, starting to brown on south slopes. Thunderstorm to NE in southern Sierra. 2:15 P.M.

2 ravine, 1 red-tailed hawk seen. A short distance down highway flock of 35-40 tri-colored redwings, 1 divert, several meadow-larks. Poppies, owl-cliver, lupine, fiddle-neck still blooming favorable exposures.
