Reel No. 8
July 10 mild morning typical of Valley midsummer mornings.
I dubbed in some remarks at end of tape using the Yosemite museum Penton recorder. Note following portions of my voice using maganite in field. In replaying tapes I've been aware of the treble pitch my voice comes out as. The animal recordings may all be too treble, too.
Reel No. 9 About 50 more feet of tape of fledgling acorn woodpeckers. Follow brief series of Steller jay notes at Camp 19, Yosemite Valley. 9:30 A.M. Sierra ground squirrel (Citellus brevicaudi siseri) in rock slope behind tent recorded as he perched on large granite boulder and "piped" his shrill notes. Rancorous notes of Steller jay follow, note whistler, chatter, etc. of versatile jays.
July 20? Reel No. 10 Experimental recording of the "release" notes of mole toads: Bufo (Bufo) exsul, B. buro holophylus and B. conors. Recorded at museum loft on maganite and Penton machines. Toads held between fingers behind forelimbs to get the notes.
