ELKadatum 1955 Sceloporus occidentali May 18 8 mi. E Placida, 600 ft., Maysara Cr., Calif. 10:05 A.M. Rolling grassland forced off for pasture both sides by Hwy 140. Grassland broken up especially along creek course by basaltic rocky outcrops. Four (4) individuals seen, one nerved, a young or showing fair territoriality. Dorsal surface of lizard seen is lighter than the gray-black lava deposits although lichen of grayish-green color covers much of the exposed rock surface. Rock surface ran where lizard taken 35.2°C. at 10:08 A.M. in full sun. Air temp. 27.5° C. (brush shaded) Could not gotten before lizard handled too much.
