Chrysemys picta July 23 circledotin data on adult & captured early June by Marshall "Buck" Evans near Hatchery Dam. Turtle in aquarium out on rock porch of Yavate museum. Dark Water saw no eggs at 8 A.M. new Giantoli saw first at 8:40 A.M. Between 9:00 and 9:05 the second was laid. Fifth egg came at 9:25 A.M. 3rd & 4th about 5-10 minute intervals. There was a small amount of water in bottom of aquarium. New added some soil but she laid directly in the shallow (<1 cm) muddy water. Mary & Bill Word got photos 35 mm. with strobe as & laid number 5. About 15 secs. prior to gigance of # 5 the hind legs were drawn forward and under her. The cloacal opening was about 3/4" above the aquarium bottom as egg extruded. motion of egg steady and gradual. Slow movement of tail to side did push the egg slightly, but there apparently was no attempt to manipulate eggs with her hind legs. She did not move forward or back after ovipositing. Head forward & elevated 30° during laying out. At 9:53 A.M. the tail was slowly moved away in an arc from her body where it had been pressed for last 10-15 min.
