ELKardatum 1985 Hyla regilla April 12 1/2 mi. S of Court. Center, 4000 ft., Yosemite Valley Calif. Adult female collected 4:30 P.M. in wet grasses about 2 feet from a shallow pool. Direct temp. 13.8° C., substrate the same. Air temp. (bulb shielded) 2" above wet substrate was 14.2° C. She spawned out but no sign of eggs in the pool 10 x 1/5 feet by 2-3 " deep. Deeper water lies to the west of here - toward the Superintendent's house. Check later. El Capitan meadow, 3500 feet, Yosemite Valley Calif. 5:25 P.M. The pond here is just over 1/2 the size it was last year at this time. It now measures 40 x 60 feet, is 2 feet deep in middle and heavily choked with dead and dying vegetation. Hyla heard calling or I ignored. Numerous egg clusters. Most tadpoles were just hatching out but I didn't see many free-swimming toads. April 26 Stevenson Meadow and Sentinel meadow 9:30 P.M. Hyla (2013) at melt stream former meadow. Many chorusing at Sentinel meadow where considerable more water exposed, Snow to 10-12 inches depth both sites. Air temp. 1" above snow -0.4° C. at 9:42 P.M. Water temp. 1" below surface where a foot deep 2.9° C. Crazy mixed-up Hyla don't know when to call it quits!
