Elkardston 1955 Buffo cornus Oct. 22 could not be too much lower . the running rivulet lies 25 yards S of this spot nd is only about a foot below the surface here . A high water table over much of this meadow surface could limit the truds to upper levels if they hibernate_ in the meadow area . Sun went behind ridge at 3:55 P.M. Immediately the area chilled . Air large . At 4:16 P.M. 2.8° C. it's down chilly so I made this !! 4:30 Cratter hot spot found 4 feet N x N/E of quirt . Biggest surface count 558 c.g.s. This accounts for origina 2 hot spots I got earlier today. Quiet writing at above point and [illegible] began digging with pick and shovel at edge of the worm spot . tested high here. sod & rock fragments I was only able to dig down through root and soil about 8 inches before encountering the surface of the down-sloping large granite
