Elkaddatum 1955 Buffer corona Oct. 8 Twiggs base - in steady rd bottom area of meadows saturated. However, in spite of thin and scattered snow patches (to 20' width) on north facing slopes, the ridges are very dry. Turning over logs yielded dry sandy soil only. - Donny Rafferty at Twiggs Base reported seeing adult corona active in Saddleboy Canyon (leading into the Lake) last week (last 30) at 9:30-10:00 A.M. Not seen vicinity of Twiggs Entrance Station but Donny claims he hasn't been really searching. Continued search with counters 1:10 - 2:15 P.M. Special emphasis on dry slopes surrounding Bad A. at 2:15. Bill Hamilton found a real hot spot along flowing rivulet yards W x NW of Station. Normal background on both geiger counters 0.08 m/m. (0.4 x 0.2 m/m.) Spot registered 0.2 m/m. or off dial set at x 0.2. We figured we had a tool but digging resulted in nothing but loose guts of "hot sand." Layer was fragment + small double negatives. Sad state of affairs! Second hot spot 65 yards NW of Station. Three metamorphosed jaws, found in hole up under banks. We dug sod out without finding adult. Again a small portion of the sod checked out hot. Sample collected. Normal background in this area 20-30 c.p.s. (scintillometer) Hot piece of sod registered 3800-4100 c.p.s. With Traverse counter I got 40 m/m. (.5 x 20.) We followed out two of these blind leads, and Robinson found a third with scintillometer. By
