Stebbins, R. 1955 Taken for E.L.Kalstone Bufo canorus 200 yds ENE Tiroga Checking Station, Yosemite Natl. Park, Mariposa Co., Calif. Aug. 3 Water of pond at weather station 27.7°C (at depth 1/2"); muck of bottom same temp.; time 12:30 p.m. Air 1/2" above black soil in sun (bulb shaded), 25.5°C; soil thoroughly wet. Soil (wet), 4 ft. from pond edge 30.0°C. Male toad found 107 ft. NW weather station; 75 ft. to WNW lodge-pole clump at NE side pond area; stream 15 ft. to E; toads were clipped - rt. for #3, left fore #2; rt. hind #4 (toads counted from inside out). Lucian on back as sketched; small elliptical opening, purplish in color & exuding lymph upon pressure. Pellet in groin area or left side not fixed in place; could be moved short distance antially(1/2" or so). Many recently transformed toads next to weather station; these were about 1/4" in using about folds of skin s-v. actual length of toad. Wild onion; willows to 3ft. high; sedge in pond to 6" high. Many Bufo & Rana tadpoles. Saw about 1/2 doz. transformed toads other than recently metamorphosed young. Two of these were about 3/4" s-v. (= grading Elk)
