Bufor coronus
Aug.2 Upper Fletcher Lake, 10,500 ft., Mariposa Co., Calif.
next sege seen at extreme end of the bowl. Third legs
have started to appear, take good-sized. Ram tads
(this year and last) very abundant in deeper pools.
Bufor and Ram larvae not found together. Water temp.
where Bufor present 27.6° C. Air temp. bulb shaded
22.1° C. Clouds coming over from south over 1/3 of
day by 2 P.M. High winds, possibly approaching
storm. Adult tads not found. Larvae probably spread
no more than 3-4 meters size in small area. Adult
fryes very abundant.
Aug.3 Bob Stebbins made brief check of Tierra Rosa
area today. He reports emerging tads at study
pond A as well as recovery of a Co60 tagged
toad (see RCS Aug. 3 notes).
Aug.7 Walk party at old mine's cabin above the upper
Gaylen Lake, elevation 10,800 ft., Tuolumne Co.
Calif. A few tadpoles seen shallow margin of
west side middle Gaylen lake 6:50 A.M. No
signs of adult tads active in area. Check of the
upper Green Lake, 10,700 ft. made July 27
revealed a couple separate batches of larvae
at yards adjacent to lake. These were in third
leg developmental stage, possibly several weeks
behind Tierra Rosa larvae. Again no tads
found. Small lakes (or ponds) on east above
upper Gaylen were barren of obvious life.
