ELKordation 1955 Buffo Corvus June 25 used, not a strike technique although I put a match to scissors first time they were used. tools. Most tools were collected as they ducked into the openings of ground squirrel & microtus burrows. Rate of feeding is fast. No more than 4-5 different voles were heard calling, and their trails ceased abruptly as we moved into cover. Feeding a older subadults out feeding during after- noon. Less than 1/3 of all adults were actually in the water. Beckman model Beta-Gamma Geiger counter tried. We retrieved two tools known or sus- pacted to be in area 40 x 40 feet within 5 minutes. One was submerged in silt under water 3" deep; other was almost completely hidden in a microtus run. There is no appreciable "background" in this area. Tools injected with .015-.030 + milllicuries of Co60 were detectable at 5-6 feet distance. A promising technique if tools survive at least into a hibernator period! June 26 Elbert's Pass, 8730 ft., Alpine Co., Calif. 10:30 A.M. Small pool 10 x 30' 40 yards SE of summit marker. Adult G found dead in pool. Bird bloody as if smashed by some sharp rock. Length > 60 SV long - a very large G. Furages covered, dead many days. No signs of other adult this level area. Scattered dodgepole pine in vicinity. Snow patches up under
