Elkarslotten 1955 Bufo cerroto june 25 but typicall high winds. Tag strength checked. Lake had dried but scratches can be read? Toads had laid eggs practically on top of the lead extending out from the thermograph mechanism. 2:30 p.m. Eggs with hatching out larvae found in pool 40 x 50 feet, irregular, shallow, broken up by clumps of sedge. Spread over tiny gulds about one 4 feet on a side. Depth < 2 1/2", mixed silt and gravel bottom. Group 2" clear surface in deeper water at late renewal stage, others at edge hatching out. 1/2 C difference water temp. two places now at 2:30 p.m. About 30% mortality on eggs. Dead adult & new eggs. Side ripped open & entrails partially protruding. looks like attack by a bird. Dead 3-4 days at least. Reset and thermograph at 5:20 p.m. Bad temp. 20.8 C. or 69 F. Ill registering low at 64 F. so I reset. Note size of key necessary for clock, one I brought just too small. Sample of eggs & tadpoles taken from in front of station. Water depth 1 1/2" - 4' out from station a range of " = 1". Dense tadpole concentration just N of station over roughly over 3 x 5'. Total of 27 adult and subadult toads tagged with Collett 60 lead pellets. Toes clipped, size measured. slit made dorsal surface of skin above vertebral column to prevent deep cut over viscera. Pellet inserted and forced rather to distend body portion in rear sacrum. Eye scissors, forceps
