ELK Lake 1955 June 16 Terra Rose, 9900 ft., Mono Co., Calif. 2" below surface, air temp. 7.5° C. above wet grass. Thermograph in recording pond tank. It swept 41' out from E bank of pond 2-2½" below surface. Drew spotted an adult F which eluded him in wooded pool. We saw two other OD's while putting in temperature equipment. No eggs or caddis. Caverns emergence probably recent here at the Rose. June 24 Forequire Flat, 8100 ft., Mariposa Co., Calif. late afternoon check of area south of Forequire Creek. 5:15-6:50 P.M. gentle sloping grassy hillside soggy with seepage flow from lodgepole pine forest where snow still drifted up under trees. Scattered small lodgepole pine on hillside, no frogs but Perca in pools adjacent to stream. 9:15-10:05 P.M. check of meadow area. Tadpoles found near on table-like area about 100 yards S of main Creek. Mark Hipssett and I found no adults. Air temp. 7.8° at 9:35 P.M. Water 1" deep seepage stream where tadpoles present 12.8° C. Tadpoles well dispersed but seepage flow steady and these could be result of but a few waterings. Dry overnight, no breeze. June 25 Check of same area 8:15 A.M. No signs of adults under logs or out in open. Water temp. 13.5° C., air 1" above wet log 13.0° C. & 8:35 A.M. No additional tad found. Mark collected single Thermophis.
