Buffs borreus
Sept. 8 adult & active in grass 7:20 P.M. nearby
deadfall log at E margin find B. Toad
collected for experimentatin. Sedges still green
and tall (to 3' in clumps) but no standing
water. Wild mint (giant hyssop) abundant among
sedge clumps and in meadow bottom. Artemisia,
western bull thistle also present. On the
north side of the road dry open grassland
with Lessingia forming dense lilac fields. I
collected 4 more marked adults at SE corner
of large open meadow. Two were along bridle
path and others near a large downed stumps
and log. Dry matter open grassy over.
Ground squirrel burrows all around the
stumps - probable toad retreat. Evening
clear and mild - in 70's. F. One marked
adult -> RF 3, LF2, -, LH4 found near
the stump. No breeze tonight. Smoke large
in Valley.
