ELKadeath Bufro boreas July 29 Ahwahnee Meadow, 4000 ft. Yosemite Valley Removed last of traps, equipment from meadow 6:45 a.m. max-min 97-39 F. Pond A & B had moist mud bottoms. Turning logs at bottom of pond A yielded 3 metamorphosed toads active on wet mud surface. First sign of successful toad hold 2 years. Length S-V of toads: 13.2, 14.8, 12.6 mm. Recently meta. metamorphosed Hydra present under some logs. Aug. 23 Same locality. Night check 8:15-9:05 p.m. yielded two adult >> toads at SE corner of meadow along the bridle path. Weather had been too corriged. No toads found over ponds A, B, etc. or over open grassland. Mild evening with air traps in high 60's. Toads very active. ELK #808 tested & stomach preserved. S-V length 81.2 mm. Dorsal color olive-brownish dark with dark blotches < 1 cm. length. Venter entirely unspotted. Aug. 29 Color notes on ELK #809, S-V length 89.5 mm. Ovary expanded, eggs < 1.4 mm. diameter. Fat bodies not greatly greatly expanded. Sept 8 Ahwahnee Meadow, 4000 ft., Yosemite Valley 7:00 p.m. Check of study area. At pond A I found 5 of this summer's metamorphosed toads. S-V length about 3/4". These are larger than yearling B. boreas I found in June and July at Tioga Pass. A large single
