EL Karlstrom 1955 Bufo boreas July 20 6 mi W Elberts Pass, 7700 ft., Owyhee Co. Calif. 9:10 A.M. Tadpoles discovered in a small meadow seygore pond. Kodakhine #10 taken from NW 1/8th at 59. Meadow sure NW x SE 120 yards by 30-40 yds wide. Lodgepole pine - set for association. A small trickling creek were length of low gradient meadow, averaging 2' width but holes to 14-16 " deep. Rora adult numerous. Ambystoma macrodetylum under logs edge of boggy meadow. Pond irregularly shaped 25 x 8' with max depth 8" middle. Water clear but half broken by green grasses to 16" height. Would appear to be a single food hotel. Larvae find legs developed, are large - to 1" total length. Water temp. 14.6° C. at 9:20 1" below surface. Air temp. 1" above damp grass 18.2° C. Hydra present but few in number. Rora adult in pond. Predation on tadpoles? Total toad population may be less than 500 Common morning flower predominant meadow bloom scattered corn lilies. Bottom of pool muck and adsilt. He tadpoles well spread out, it took Paul Elberts and me over 1/2 hour to collect 30-40 tadpoles. They were carried out in a carton. No sign of adults under logs meadow margin. Again B. boreas does not appear to be found at higher elevations. This locality puts bores within 5 miles of Iviey's 1952 corrine locality
