Buffalo, Arizona
July 19 1/2 mi E x SE Niggle, 8200 ft., Alguie Co.
Colif. - the shallow dirt still flowing creek.
Para musca adults present but no Ibyla found.
Extensive seneal among corn lilies, rodent burrow
opening, and origin of willow clump. No torde.
Chanty Valley, 9700 ft., Alguie Co., Colif. 5:50
8.M. A brief check of this pond and adjacent area
revealed not a sign of larvae or transformed
toroe. The pond is 2/3rds dried up with maximum
depth of water about 16". Weed clumps and
crooked around margins. Pond and I turned
over logs & stones around pond without re-
covering a single torde. There was an abundant
host of tadpoles in lute jars, and I would
expect metamorphosed torde to be present - or larvae
still in the pond. Water beetles (Noticeno)
numerous. Water brown-stained slightly but
no particular heavy odor of wetlone usually
associated with such ponds later in summer.
Faith Valley, 9500 ft., Alguie Co., Colif. Pond
and I discovered larvae in a couple of seepage
streams adjacent to the main creek. Water
locked up in places, shallow (to 10-12" max.
mum depth). Wot temp. 20.8°C. at 6:45
P.M.
Some torde along edges of main 20-25' wide
creek; probably washed into creek from
seepage pools on meadow surface. Difficult
to capture more than a few dozen larvae.
