ELKarteton 1955 Bulfer Dunes June 8 Horse Connel Mdw . 7645 ft. Apparently Rana has not bred since we found no eggs in stream or at edge. Main Creek has temp. of 18.2° C. = 9:10 P.M. Night check of same meadow with our night lights. No calling heard from edge of meadow apart for a few hours 200-300 yards away. 2 adult males found on horizontal log siding from an old cabin. Choral of air 18.20° C. at 9:14 P.M. Substrate (dry logs) 11.5° C. Air 2" above logs same. Large for os's. Fairly distinct vertical stripes, greenish-tan ground color. Much rust on vents and densely blotched with black. Adult ? collected 10:20 P.M. Choral 9.2° C. Air 9.0° C above dry log under ? not. N margin of meadow. 10:35 P.M. Adult or on large growth (dry) boulder Choral 14.2° C. Air 1" above rock 14.0° C. This lost trout was caught near the Court Parking station (cabin) on NW edge of meadow. There were no cold water 9:10 - 10:45 P.M. tonight, and no trouts found out in the soggy meadow. All collected were at or near meadow give margin, ad all were up in dry logs or on the rock or the lost one. Some rainbow trout were up in flowing shallows at edge of Creek. We flipped two small over out (<6") and checked guts for signs of tadpole predation. Inspect (carefully?) and debris only. Trout in this situation may take the abundant tadpoles. 5 Rana collected in or near Bufor tad pools were killed & preserved straight for later stomach analysis. Zweifel reported
