Buffs Boxes
June 5 Ahwahnee Mdw., 4000 ft., Yosemite Valley 7 A.M.
Serviced instruments at weather station. Pond level is up. Stake reads 22 1/2" depth. Wyla and Buffs took present Pond B at least. Max-min, (air) 90-39° F.
Pond Toy thermograph recording = 0.5-1.0 C° high but I left it as is. Bulbpond appears to have set about about last Wed. (?)
# Night check of meadow 10:00-11:15 P.M. Evening clear and mild, practically no breeze. Air temp. ranged 14.5-15.5° C. and evening coolness had not set in by time Dreward I finished survey. About 7 adult O's were too cligged. One recovery of a too marked adult on "Hotel Road" NE side of the west meadow. Movement from original working site about 100 ± yards. Only one toad was recovered in the water. This o' first seen swimming in 8-10" water of ditch SW side of Hotel Grounds.
No males at calling stations. Breeding probably thru except for possible late emergence of females. Over 50 O's have been marked since only one F and only one F. She must be one F emergence. I would estimate 3-4 matings Pond A & B from number of toads present now collected tonight.
A warm mild evening. Toads probably out feeding on spiders, etc. especially along dirt footpaths. Some toads found in heavy clumped grasses near Pond B. See working sheets for temp. records.
