L.Karlton 1955 Buffo boreas April 26 Morigan Creek, SW side of Morigan, 1900 ft., Morigan Cr., Calif. 12:05 P.M. Took some habitat shots here with Voightlander 4x5 camera. Plus-X #3 F12 at 1/100th. Facing south. Part of stream where toad eggs found April 13. #4 close-up of toads at edge of the creek. Gravel and rock bottom with scattered patches of silt. F5.6 at 1/100th. Sample of toads taken. Air temp. 2" above range gresses at 12:30 P.M. 10.4°C. Water at edge where toads lay 12.6°C. In deeper water (6") where more toads 11.2°C. In middle of stream where water flowing one yard in 2-3 seconds and 14" deep 10.8°C. Intermittent rain and sunshine at this time. Snow lie at N base of houses. First seen SW of Morigan dry wood at 15:00 feet. Hail and/or rain intermittent between Calhoy and Morigan. The stream here has a maximum width at present of 50-60 feet but stream bed is twice as broad. Maximum depth of water to 14", moves fairly swift (few feet per second) in middle. Pools of eddying water at edges or formed by tributary flow. Vegetation breaks up the stream bottom - scattered cat-tails, mint, a dock (RUMEX) and mostly an unidentified succulent growth forming mats 20-30 feet across and to 20" above water surface. Alder and willow line the stream, densely on NE side, few scattered willow clumps SW side. Algae in heavy bloom where water moves slowly. The stream bottom
