Buffo boreas
April 13 Marizera Creek, Marizera, 1900 feet, Marizera
Co., Calif. - the west side of this tributary
to Marizera Creek. The stretch of stream is
located one block west of the center of town
(Baked America, etc.) more detailed description later.
I collected about 25 adult or toads, 1 gravid
female (not in angulejus). Toward the SE end
of the stretch I worked (near bridge) the cattails
were thicker and some quite deeper. Many adult
bullfrogs sighted here but no toads. 4 adults
were collected by hand.
A sample of Taddoles taken from near upper
end of portion of stream. Todgodes so thick they
appeared as a dense black patch over rocky
bottom at margin of stream. Alyos plentiful
right here, and toad actively frogging. Water added
slightly over rocky substrate but moved very
slowly where toads present. Groups of toads spread
over area 4 x 10 feet but concentrated in two
smaller (2x3') patches. Water temp. in midst of
group 13.0°C at 7:20 P.M., Air 19.8°C.
This spawn could be result of a couple matings.
No pairs found tonight in angulejus, although
abundance of males indicates that breeding is
at possible zeek.
April 14 Toads and bullfrogs survived trip. Note
coloration pattern of an adult or which looks
(see color notes)
wetted stripe, is greenish like a B. carinus male.
