EL Carleton 1955 Buffo loreus March 12, 1.3 mi. N, 0.2 mi. W of Civic Center, Richmond Cortez Costa Co., Calif - the lodgesee in vicinity of egg site #1 , pond A are hatched out and free of the jelly which is decomposing and algae covered . Recovered 5 R ♂ (see marking record) which had apparently been killed by hide with BB gun . Recovered at NW end of Pond A about 30 yards NW of site where marked Feb. 16th. Another adult ♂ also found dead - but not marked. A few adult layler also had been killed some gone . Otherwise , no adult toads collected this morning 11 A.M. to 12:30 P.M., although two boys of junior high age reported seeing a couple in Pond B. Day warm and fair, breeze moderate. Dry conditions. Pond level down 1/2" from last date March 7th. Eggs (most fertile) collected Pond B, 40 yards from SE end and 15 yards from the fence on the E side of pond. Early gastrula stage. Stringy wound among grasses 4-6' from pond edge in water 8-10" deep, but eggs no more than 4" below water surface. Both of egg strings 3x4 feet. lower Eggs also found in shallow muddy puddle along footpath NW part of Pond B, pole position 2 1/8 S. near hatching, swimming stage but some of the eyes had been dragged over wet mud and were addled. Eggs had been spread over 10 x 2 1/2' area with heavy concentration in middle of patch.
