Total count of adult toads (probably too low) Pond B on east side Santa Fe tracks : 39 o>, 3 f (2 amplexing pairs) Pond A west of Santa Fe tracks : 15 O>, 3 F (3 amplexing pairs) Total of 54 O>2, 6 F both ponds or 60 toads. Storer (1925) states that ordinarily a breeding population of no more than 12-15 pairs will occupy one local area. If there are as many females as males in this area, an estimate of a hundred adults is not stretching the number a bit. Temperature data follows: 8:00 P.M. Pair in amplexus Pond B at N end about 50 yards south of trestle. cloacal both 12.00 C. Water temp. same. Air temp. 10.50 C. over water. Water depth 3 inches here. 8:31 P.M. pair in amplexus crawling out over area of low grass and bare ground, 6 feet SW of wedge pad B near middle portion of it. cloacal 8.00 of O>. Air temp. 2
