EL Kalation 1955 Bufo boreas Feb. 22 Vicinity of Tulb Lake, 1 1/2 mi. W of San Quentin State Penitentiary, Marin Co., Calif. Artificial lake nestled in hills behind a sewage disposal plant. Small adult ?? under piece of galvanized tin 3'x 2' x 1/6" thick. Closed temp. 26.7° C. 12:20 P.M. Air temp. (bull shielded) 2" above dry ground 15.5° C. micro-habitat heated up and soil only slightly dange under piece of tin. Full sun, dear sky but moderate coolish breeze. Soil temp 19.8° C. with bull just immersed in soft soil where toad sat. Dick Russell and Jim Anderson found another toad, a juvenile, under flat board 25 yards away. Tulb Lake lies 200 yards NE of this point, a possible food breeding site. However, a close scrutiny of pond edge all around showed nothing but a few waxy bullfrogs and many Conbusia offinis. 1.3 mi. N, 0.2 mi. W Cerrito Gate Richmond, Contra Costa Co., Calif. 1:45 P.M. Chest containing soil thermograph and one max-min. thermometer has been stolen! Sanded area within few hundred yards of pond A but no sign of the operator. Suspect older kids or an adult - probably too heavy for young kids. Damn it! Toads have droid eggs probably within last 24 hours in vicinity of the weather station. Excellent data out the window!! Anyone for a lab problem?
