Bufo boreas
Feb. 21 Conversation with Vic Levin concerning the fauna of an off-shore island near Chica Cone, Marin Co., Calif. Vic studied microtuz population spring 1953 for Vertebrate Reproduction course. Only other resident vertebrate noted was California toad, an estimated 5-6 adults with one slightly smaller than rest. Toads continually taken in Sherman live traps, but several seen away from grasses in the open. No surface letter. Toads using microtuz burrows of which there are a limited number. Total number of mice trapped 16. Four trips made to island: March 29, 30; April 4; May 3, 1953. No permanent water and no signs of young or larvae seen. There is a sink at NE end of island which, in a wet season, could conceivably offer an opportunity for breeding. Right now would be the time to check in lieu of great volume of water in my Richmond yards.
Levin divided figure-8 island into 2 sets of quadrants.. microtuz found only on SW half of island. Toads found [illegible] both sections, but most recorded from trapping EFCH section.
