EL Kardamian 1955 Journal Oct. 22 Colder exposed ridge and protected draws. Some snow and rain during past couple weeks (see station weather data) has resulted in moist soil lower meadow area. Slashed gullied edges toid front until late morning (10-11 a.m.), and there was a good 4" of ice encrusting edges of the moving rivulet and the wet bottomland on the west side of pond A. A few thin patches of snow still existed in slashed exposures around the study area. Dora, Mammoth and other peaks have retained snow from storms initiating winter snow blanket. Others in party went pika hunting on west slopes below Mt. Dora at 3:30 p.m. Jim Orderson heard but a single cony. Clark's crow, junecae only bird species observed at Bosse. Beldinge ground squirrels not in evidence at all. no marmots or chipmunks seen. 3 Thamnys trogged in study area along with 3" micratus, the latter along the flowing rivulet, left Bosse 5:45 p.m. for Valley. No deer seen above about 7000 feet along road and relatively few (5-6) until we cruised in Valley. Adult prceyine observed in wood 3 miles SE of Cume Flat, about 6000 feet. 7:31 p.m. Set trap line Churchne Mdw. (9-10 p.m.) and surveyed for food (none!) cold -5-6°C.- clear evening. Oct. 23 Walked around Yosemite Museum until 11 a.m. 2 specimene (see note) of great gray owl were in research room. Return Berkeley mild fall day by 6 p.m.
