July 19 left Yosemite Valley 5:30 A.M. with Paul Ellis.
clear cool morning. Arrived Tioga Pass 8:10 A.M.
after breakfast stop Meadows. mild, windless
morning with air temperature 17-18° C. Tods
already active at surface or emerging from
burrows. light wind by 9:45 A.M. Sky ½
covered high cumulus formations. mosquitoes
vicious! Togged toads #37-58 with CO60 tags.
left Pass 11:30 A.M. and drove directly to
Bardaville on U.S. 395. hot, dry day. Hwy
37 to Woodfords, #88 up into Hager Valley
4:30 P.M. Drive directly to Muggle locality
on road to Blue Lakes. No signs of Bufo
here. Check of clarity Valley pond on return
5:50 P.M. No toads or juveniles here. Tods/ales
found dry stream in Faith Valley 6-7 A.M.
cooked supper here. Night driving back to
Woodfords and Hwy 4 to Hermit Valley on
west side Ebbett's Pass. Camp here.
July 20 Paul and I drove about 4 miles westward on Hwy 4(?)
to lower end Hermit Valley. We finally found the
Indian Valley trail (a jeep had been over at this year?)
and hiked about 2 miles by trail N x NW of Hwy
4. Anlystoma wendyotylum (4) and Bufo boreas
todgedale in pond along trail. Returned to car and
drove up to Bigland Lake use Hermit Valley. Check
of Bigland Road canyon localities. Direct return
to Yosemite via Hwy 395. Continued clear warm
Tioga Pass from Paradise Flt 6000 ft.
